Acceptance of Events to Our Calendar

All events undergo an editing and review process. Many events will be supplemented by additional information that we research ourselves, when basic background information on the issue is not already provided by the submitter.

Type of Events Accepted

To meet to our mandate for providing a place for hard-hitting activism, only events that are political in nature will be listed. This means events that either literally involve local and national US politics, or events that "speak to power" or are otherwise too edgy to appear in mass media publications.

We receive and decline many submissions for very worthy events like AIDS and CSA fundraisers, nutrition classes, spiritual peace healing workshops, and more. These types of events are usually very welcome in more traditional venues, and we feel their inclusion in our calendar would detract from the more edgy activist events we wish to focus upon.

We also must decline listings that represent continuous happenings. While we can list an opening event for an activism-related exhibition or facility, we simply cannot populate every day of our calendar with a listing of their continued existence.

We will also, at our discretion, not list events or group listings for organizations that we deem to be hate groups. That is, groups that advocate the blanket condemnation of people based on their religion, culture, age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or other potentially defining quality.

Events are mostly entered by event organizers, or people interested in promoting the events. ActivistResource enters very few events on our own. If you do not see an event listed in our calendar, please consider listing it yourself.

Tone and Point-of-View of listings

We strive to keep an informative and non-sensationalized calendar, where different events are not vying for attention. Thus, we tend to edit submissions so that only generally accepted facts are presented, quoting emotional or speculative expressions given by event organizers, and eliminating all-capitalized words and exclamation points. Activists are busy people, and soberly presenting them with activism opportunties is our goal.

Location of Events

Our calendar is limited to New York State events, or out-of-state events to which there is a local participation contingent, and transportation offered. Events outside of New York State are otherwise beyond the scope of our efforts. Since most of our subscribers have filters that restrict displayed events to within a certain distance of their home ZIP code, there isn't much use in listing out-of-state events unless they are near a New York border.

Contact Information

Each listing must contain at least one valid item of public contact information, leading to an event organizer or someone willing to be a "point-person" for the event.

Events, actions, and organizations represented on this site do not necessarily represent the views or methods of the site's editors. ActivistResource.org does not endorse any particular event or organization, but merely provides a venue for the dissemination of information that appears to be activist in nature, and might not be welcome on mass media calendars.
