The Dissident Arts Festival 2012: 2 Stages! 2 Days! 2 Boroughs!"
The seventh annual Dissident Arts Festival, with two days of musicians, poets, performance artists and guest speakers challenging the status quo and advocating progressive causes. This is the festival's third year in New York City, having begun upstate in Beacon in 2006.
Featured performers for 2012 include Karl Berger and Ingrid Sertso of Woodstock, NY. Another special feature will be a screening of the film Metropolis with live accompaniment by the improvisers of the Dissident Arts Orchestra.
From the organizers:"The Festival is a showcase of cultural workers and serves as a bridge between the arts and the progressive activist community; it's where revolutionary New Music meets Topical Song and Free Jazz cavorts with Dissident Poetry, Theatre and Film! As it needs to be, our art is as rad as our politics…"
The event will be held at different locations for each day. On Friday August 17, the venue will be 17 Frost Theatre of the Arts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, On Saturday August 18, the event will be at the Brecht Forum in Greenwich Village.
Friday's event will features a Radical Songwriters Forum, and the film screening of 'Metropolis' with live accompaniment. Saturday's event will feature a film screening and discussion of 'Culture of Resistance', and the main attraction of a concert with many performers.
